Now, their days are filled with activities like long phone conversations with loved ones while walking along dry dirt paths around fenced isolation camps.

They talk, rotate gear, take their temperature, wait for a food truck to eat, play video games, watch movies, or talk about details like cleaning camps or serving food to their teammates. They don't talk to the soldiers on the other side of the chain link fence because they know that's not allowed. Separated from everyone but the group they've been with all year, they count down the days until they finally see their family and friends.

"Leaving Poland, like going anywhere, can be difficult," Sgt. said Winston Ryder, an intelligence analyst based in Bozeman, Montana. "While it's great to be back on American soil, we can't wait to leave the heat and get back home."

“Some of the buildings on my base in Poznan still had World War II bombs. It was really cool to be there. We found some old photos of the Poles using the same building we were in. History was definitely the best part for me.

The 652nd RSG was tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of 11 major base camps throughout Poland. Their deployment to Poland was significant because it was the first time an American reserve unit was assigned to the mission. The five base camps in the Jagan cluster are located in western Poland - Jagan, Terespin, Swiczow, Boleslawych and Karliki. The other six base camps are located in the Skwierzyna and Drawsko Pomorskie training areas, and the NATO base camp in western Poland, Poznań, Powidz, Torun and Bemowo Piskie training area, in eastern Poland.
